Pros

Amazing residents, I loved getting to know them and caring for them. The other Caregivers and Med Techs I worked with were for the most part absolutely fantastic and I felt that everyone truly cared about each other and the residents they cared for. They always did their best in terms of care and everyone was very quick to help each other during crazy and hectic times. Best coworkers I've ever had by far! Our head nurse at the time (Jackie) did a great job with the resources she was given and was very helpful and quick to answer questions and address concerns I had about resident care. Being a caregiver is an incredibly rewarding and meaningful job, I always felt a great sense of accomplishment at the end of every shift. It is a great knowing that you impacted someones life in a positive way.

Cons

A few coworkers were lazy, unmotivated and would call off "sick" regularly which is completely unacceptable in my eyes. Often times we were unable to find another person to come in to fill that shift, so we'd be short staffed (only 3 caregivers for 45-55 residents). The AM shifts are insanely busy (and understaffed IMO) and extremely stressful. The upper management never seemed to understand that a caregiver can only be in one place at one time. At any given time on a shift I had at least 10 things I had to do (change a diaper, turn someone in bed, check on this person, shower that person, etc, etc.) I'm not complaining about the work, I just never felt like the upper management understood how swamped the care staff was. The care staff is ridiculously underpaid and under appreciated for the amount of work they do. I made 10.40 hourly while working there.. I make much more now installing blinds, which is nowhere near as important as caring for people. People flipping burgers at In n Out make more than that as well. The sad thing was, one of the best caregivers I worked with, who had been there for 5+ years, was still being paid less than me.

Thank you, we appreciate your candor and agree that caregiving is a rewarding and meaningful job. We value our caregivers and appreciate their dedication to our residents. The staffing in all of our assisted living communities is in compliance with CA state licensing requirements; actually we have found our staffing exceeds that of many of our competitors. Providing excellent care and service to our residents is our highest priority. We understand employees need work/life balance and will call off from time to time, sometimes unexpectedly. When this occurs we make every effort to make adjustments to ensure the residents are well cared for. Outside of job protected absences, we also have policies in place to address concerns if absences become excessive. We make every effort to provide a competitive wage for all employees. We evaluate our wage scales annually looking at current market data to ensure we are in step with the market comparable to other assisted living communities. We adjusted our pay grades this year and we are committed to looking at them at least annually making adjustments where needed to ensure we are in line with the market. As part of a total compensation package, we also offer comprehensive benefits which include paid time off, health insurance, life and disability plans, EAP, and a retirement plan.

Thank you for sharing your perspective with us. We truly value the dedication of our team members, and we’re glad to hear you’ve enjoyed the support of your colleagues and our meal program. However, it is disheartening to learn that your experience with our management and culture hasn't met the standard we strive for. We take your concerns regarding workload and favoritism seriously, as creating a balanced and fair environment is a top priority for us. We are committed to continuous improvement and would appreciate the opportunity to hear more about your specific experiences so we can better support our staff and the seniors we serve.
