Pros
Depending on manager, you're pretty much left on your own to do your job without someone looking over your shoulder every minute. Merit raises are not uncommon.
Cons
Annual layoffs=constant feeling of lack of job security. Even low-level management, or 'team leaders', are expected to participate in regular early-morning conference calls, often multiple times a week. Mandatory on-call can really ruin your weekends and your circadian rhythm.
