Pros

Working at Epic in the Technical Services role is an overall enjoyable experience, especially if you enjoy solving problems and puzzles. Much of your experience at Epic will be what you proactively make of it. This involves asking your Team Lead (and others) to see what types of projects and workgroups are out there, and if there are any that interest you. It’s understandable that as a new employee, you may be apprehensive to do this (especially if it is your first job). At Epic, you need to do this early on, and continuously seek opportunities for yourself. As the company and industry is growing, there is no shortage of work, so you’re bound to find something that interests you. By far, the greatest part of working at Epic is the opportunity to work with such outstanding co-workers. Not only are your peers exceptionally brilliant, they are also down-to-earth, and are always willing to help you out. The best advice I can probably give is to make sure you speak up: ask for help when you need it (early on), be open when giving feedback, and inquire about any potential projects you are interested in.

Cons

The downside to begin in a growing industry and company is that there are often times where you feel like you have too much work to do. There are times when you are working long hours, and this can get you down if it drags on for more than a short while. Although this may not be too bad for an individual who is fresh out of college, it’s something to consider for those with families or other commitments. In order to mitigate this, it’s important to set expectations and timelines (both internally and with customers). As long as you continuously put in a lot of effort and are producing good work, both internal managers/co-workers and customers are understanding of the fact that you can’t get everything done all at once. Another potential downside is the amount of travel, which has been more than typical over the past year. Initially, I got the impression that TS would travel once every 3-4 months, but in these past few months, it’s been closer to once every 1-2 months. The travel itself isn’t too bad, but while on-site at one customer, it is difficult to keep on top of your other work.
