Pros
More team-oriented than other sectors, many kind and helpful people, some women and minorities are starting to be promoted to leadership roles, the permanent federal employees (not contractors or grantees) have good benefits, some groups have better microclimate than others
Cons
Overt sexism and racism are common, very much a totem pole class system based on seniority/longevity rather than merit, disruptive budget changes every year, enormous number of rules, little schedule flexibility, no separate sick leave, priorities are driven by (often ambiguous) shifting politics, few external collaborations, excessive spending on projects with no meaningful results
