Pros

Good opportunities for young journalists willing to work cheap. Long hours but many chances to cover variety of stories.

Cons

This newspaper was a very good mid-size newspaper for more than 100 years. The decline really started several years ago. Since the Great Recession, Gannett has continued to downsize and degrade the product. Annual layoffs deplete staff of veterans and knowledge of community. Much of the newspaper now is USA TODAY content, repackaged into the Enquirer. Local content heavily focused on crime and government news.

Always encouraging creativity and ideas, team environment, lots of opportunity, overall a great place to work

Cons

Going through some transitions, work load is a little heavier while we are looking to fill new positions.

Pros

The workplace setting is nice - they've done upgrades to the building/workspaces. And the co-workers for the most part are very helpful when it comes to team work and getting the job done within a fast paced environment.

Cons

Layoff blindsides • No career advancement • Forced to take high-deductible health insurance No perks/incentives for production employees • No respect shown to long-time employees
