Pros

None. Not the pay. Not the benefits. Not the environment. Not the toll on your mental health.

Cons

The entire job. Loyalty means nothing. And, leading you on to believe you will be part of a family. I worked from MA to supervisor by sheer hours of hard work and process improvements. I had no formal training. I built the position I was in from the ground up. So yes, you can climb the ladder (although I wasn’t the first choice). But you’re going to have a bigger fall. I also attempted to represent the MAs/lab/radiology when no one else did. Management disagreed and had a “god complex”. It’s physician owned and management controlled. You never know who’s calling the shots, and management prefers it that way so you never know who to question. Asking for policies and procedures was like pulling teeth. Even as supervisor I was micromanaged 24/7 and never given any “power” that usually comes with the increased responsibilities. MAs have a union that doesn’t represent them as an alternative to horrendous management. Lots of closed doors conversations to blindside others. Lots of gossip which management takes at face value. Took complaints about serious issues several times to my supervisor, the COO, and the physician president. Told them about fears in regards to the clinics poor performance, severely low morale, and my concerns of retaliation from my manager after she dismissed my concerns. Didn’t make a difference despite physical evidence of retaliation after reporting concerns about my manager. Everyone in management has conflict of interest because they’re all friends. I was even told by multiple physicians that I would be next to take over as office manager. Only to be let go, and I still don’t know the reason why. I was no longer union after my promotion so I had no support there and no one else fought for me either. It’s the worst gut wrenching feeling to be deserted like that after everything I did for them. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. In all honesty, people just need to know what they’re signing up for. And it’s not worth it.
