Pros
Generally awesome coworks, the overwhelming majority of whom will do whatever they can to help you. Most of the doctors truly do seem to care about their patients. Some of the nicest radiologists you will ever work with, which is really rare! Health insurance is really cheap compared so prior companies I worked at Mid-management does seem to be trying, despite limitations When something new and nice is brought in, it tends to be treated well and with fanfare Great compensation for vacation time and sick leave and personal time (when you are able to get time off approved... more below) Very laid back atmosphere in terms of tardiness due to things out of your control. State licensing compensation, scrub allowance, encouraged cross-training to other modalities, perfect attendance compensation (when you actually receive it)
Cons
Although you "get" an hour for lunch, expect your lunch to be taken away at a moments notice more than 90% of the time. Don't expect to get a lunch. Other departments will, but Radiology tends to be the overlooked department. Expect to be stressed out a lot of the time, with little chance of getting time off. Expect to be double to triple booked often and have your necessary times on exams reduced to below the necessary time to complete it safely. You will be competing with other staff to get a needed day off. You will likely stop accuring time off in your first year. Especially if you aren't a favorite of upper management. All the clinics tend to be critically understaffed most of the time. STAT results can truly be hard to call in to the appropriate staff. Antiquated equipment with no suitable plans for replacement, usually done last minute and new equipment is definitely the cheapest they can buy, with no input from the staff actually using it on a daily basis. You will get more negative feedback for things like not taking a lunch, yet they will intentionally overbook every day preventing breaks. Don't expect good feedback very often. Basic repairs will be ignored whenever possible until they become a large issue. A few of the doctors are really awful to work for if you cross them in the wrong, in any seemingly random way. Expect to be on call any time someone has to call in sick and to work at any of the clinics across the city. Exams that don't need to be STAT ordered all the time as such, and exams that need to be sent to the hospital are pushed onto you often. The radiologists will get frustrated, leaving you in the middle. And finally, the biggest problem... expect to be very underpaid for what you do and how hard you work. Nearly every employee is underpaid... by thousands a year. It's the number one reason why people quit so quickly here.
