Pros

Fair Pay - Pay is fair considering the responsibilities Autonomy & Independence – Without strict oversight, you have more freedom to make decisions, solve problems your way, and manage tasks without micromanagement. Creative Problem-Solving – Without rigid structures, IT teams may have more flexibility to experiment with solutions, tools, and workflows. Growth or Development – Without leadership, there’s often opportunities to handle responsibilities you otherwise have never faced and will need to learn to progress

Cons

Lack of Clear Direction – Without leadership, priorities are unclear, leading to confusion, conflicting tasks, and inefficiency. No Support or Advocacy – In the absence of leadership, IT teams struggle with resource allocation, and difficulty justifying new tools or initiatives. Disorganized Workflow – Without structured management, responsibilities are unclear, leading to duplicated work, overlooked tasks, or gaps in coverage. Low Morale & Burnout – The lack of leadership results in overworked employees, miscommunication, and frustration due to a lack of guidance or recognition. No Career Growth or Development – Without leadership, there’s often little mentorship, career development, or structured learning opportunities.

Pros

Great immediate supervisor and their boss. Made top-down communications tolerable. Great co-workers and great collaboration that lifted the entire team.

Cons

(1) RIF based on tenure, not performance. HR is too powerful a department, and everyone fears it. (2) Tenure made you lazy, killed creativity, initiative, and promoted a "yes" culture. (3) During COVID layoffs, CEO pay went from $3.7 million to $15.x million, while employees endured 25% furloughs for 3 months, and management 10% reduction in pay for 6 months - explain how that is reasonable. (4) CEO declared DEI as the way forward for career mobility, and a lot of young, promising talent walked out the door, including DEI-qualified minorities. (5) I was one of those minorities.
