Pros

Fairly stable company Good open communication to employees Opportunity for advancement Profit sharing Remote work possibility Training opportunities are generally good Mostly good people to work with (obviously depends on site)

Cons

As with most large corporations, profits are protected above almost everything, so when sales/orders are down for a prolonged period, expect downsizing (okay, "right-sizing" to use the current corpspeak). IT organizations lean hard on outside foreign consulting companies. If not for this, there could be a lot more opportunity for local IT talent. Part of the H-1B visa abuse problem? Salary tends to be below market. Performance expectations are low, so you will be working with some people who you can't count on.

Pros

Great immediate supervisor and their boss. Made top-down communications tolerable. Great co-workers and great collaboration that lifted the entire team.

Cons

(1) RIF based on tenure, not performance. HR is too powerful a department, and everyone fears it. (2) Tenure made you lazy, killed creativity, initiative, and promoted a "yes" culture. (3) During COVID layoffs, CEO pay went from $3.7 million to $15.x million, while employees endured 25% furloughs for 3 months, and management 10% reduction in pay for 6 months - explain how that is reasonable. (4) CEO declared DEI as the way forward for career mobility, and a lot of young, promising talent walked out the door, including DEI-qualified minorities. (5) I was one of those minorities.
