More carrot, less stick please in books - Editorial Project Manager Elsevier Employee Review

Pros

Some really fantastic people to work with. Flexible working to an extent (though this depends entirely on your line manager) If you are particularly assertive and sign up for the right projects you will go far (sometimes regardless of actual ability) If you just like to get on with your work and not sell yourself , look elsewhere, I am doing and can't wait to get out.

Cons

Below average salary for "low end" jobs Endless costcutting - staff numbers are cut to the bone and editorial services are being minimised to a quality affecting degree. Yet we can still send selected sales and editorial staff off on expensive jollies every year? Sweeping changes to organisation announced out of the blue but no systems in place to handle those changes. Talk is of quality content, while undercutting all the staff trying to ensure that is actually the case. No criticism allowed of management decisions- surely these decisions should be challenged to keep ideas fresh and ensure they are robust?

Thank you for this balanced and thoughtful review. We're glad to hear that our benefits and investment in people are making a positive impact, those are commitments we take seriously. On the process feedback: Leadership is actively reviewing operational workflows, and the advice to listen more closely to employee feedback is something we're holding ourselves accountable to. If you're open to it, we'd encourage you to bring specific examples forward through your team or people and culture contacts. Change is most effective when it's grounded in the real experiences of the people doing the work, and that means you.
