Pros

I have great management that treat us like adults, and actually support us. My management also obeys coding guidelines.

Cons

Other management, trying to intervene in our department while they have no experience with coding. Providers needing to listen to education when it is given.

Pros

Most staff are wonderful, lots of experience, always something to do. Pay is not what it should be, but it is better compared to some other local hospitals. Has good amount of diversity.

Cons

Bullying is allowed despite “zero tolerance” policy. You will often see these bullies moving up to management, supervision, educators, or higher paying positions which makes staff have less respect for them and less retention as a result. Because of the union, it is hard to get rid of these people. Management will bring issues to your attention that are not priority per se, and this becomes increasingly frustrating as there are significant issues consistently not being addressed, such as the bullying, policy discrepancies, etc. Management definitely picks favorites, and these favorites will advance much quicker. Some managers make their own “policies” regarding whether or not you will progress the ladder and gain more skills. Getting time off is terrible as it also goes by seniority, and newer nurses or employees get awful selections and time off is difficult to get. Those with children have recently struggled with this. Company does not care about employees enough to provide onsite parking, despite making a whole new parking area that we aren’t allowed to use without permission. Even if you are willing to pay to park, the waitlist is extremely long as it goes by seniority. Offsite parking is a 3-5 minute drive away at Niskayuna bus garage and you get shuttled in, which takes time away from your morning and takes longer to get home after work. We can no longer park at Sheridan plaza, and if you street park, you risk getting tickets from SPD. Ellis has improved, but still has a lot of work to do when it comes to creating a positive environment for staff.
