Consistent but frustrating. - Server Elephant BAR Employee Review

Pros

The training program is thorough for hourly positions and seems so for management as well. It's a corporate restaurant, so you know exactly what is expected of you. The food is decent. There are a lot of openings in the schedule--if you show a good work ethic, you can power your way into better hours and stronger shifts in a relatively short period of time compared to a smaller restaurant.

Cons

Even the best shifts here often don't pay very well. Because of EB's aggressive flyer & discount marketing (as of winter '10), you will be frequently running between tables and managers trying to get clearance for a barrage of coupons and promo cards thrown your way. This will slow you down considerably. Also, most people will tip you on the discounted amount. For 20% discounts on an already often stingy senior lunch demographic, this means you can easily have a very busy shift on certain days and walk out with a pittance.

Pros

You can definitely count on a stable income, if you're on the good side of management you will have a great team standing behind you, easy atmosphere to create your own regulars, short shifts, food is great.

Cons

Takes care of the guests way too much. Way too many discounts for the guest I.e. senior discount, safari, $7 off after only $25, buy one get one at lunch time, 2 for $20. Might as well work at Applebee's? With sales at $1000 before discounts, it broke my heart see a whopping $625 after discounts, yet I can only get 50% off my select food items (chix entrees and burgers) if I ate at the restaurant and only 25% on my day off. No discount on Togo. Ever think I don't want to be in the restaurant anymore than I already am!? Turn over rate is very high, which creates the high labor because we have to slowly cut the floor to now over whelm new servers. Long story short, elephant bar tries to act like a high end restaurant but is barely a step up from Applebee's. -__-
