Pros

After working at a few other structural engineering firms in the DC metro area, I landed at Ehlert Bryan, and I hope to be here for the rest of my career. When I joined, I was fortunate enough to immediately begin working with Wayne Bryan (one of the two founding partners) and it opened my eyes to what great leadership looks like. Wayne has since taken a well-deserved step back, but the values and firm identity he established are still going strong. As a consulting structural engineering firm, it’s a fast-paced results-oriented culture. Everyone pulls their weight, and it’s a collaborative production driven business. It’s not the right fit for everyone, but those who want to take pride and ownership of their work will fit right in. The work is interesting and challenging and there are sufficient resources and personnel that it’s not overwhelming. The firm is steadily growing and there is opportunity to learn and for career development. In my experience everyone is treated fairly and equitably. The benefits and compensation are in the upper end of the market and management has made improvements since I’ve been here to areas where they were behind. In the post Covid world, management has shown the ability to grow and adapt to the changing work environment. After spending 2 years fully remote during the pandemic, they have implemented a hybrid work model that allows for flexibility and remote work for basically all employees. Ehlert Bryan is a great place for motivated career oriented structural engineers, right out of school or established engineers looking to take the next step.

Cons

There aren't many... the office location in Tysons isn't very pedestrian friendly with only a hand full of lunch spots within safe walking distance. Not a con in my eyes, but it may not be a good fit for those who aren't used to a face-paced consulting environment.

Pros

Pros: Engaging Work: Interesting and challenging projects that keep you stimulated. Competitive Compensation: Salaries are fair and competitive within the industry. Supportive Team: Friendly and collaborative colleagues create a positive work environment. Progressive Management: Leadership actively seeks feedback and implements improvements based on employee input. Flexible Work Arrangements: Options for remote work and schedule adjustments cater to diverse needs. Neutral: Benefits: While competitive within the structural engineering sector, benefits package falls short compared to larger architectural/engineering firms. Remote Policy: Remote work policy aligns with industry standards for the region.

Cons

Company Structure: Middle-heavy structure with an abundance of project managers compared to design engineers, potentially impacting growth opportunities from middle management to principal. Location: Tysons office location offers minimal nearby amenities, but accessibility through metro is a plus. Diversity & Inclusion: Representation of women and minorities, particularly in leadership positions, remains underwhelming. Currently, diversity is mainly visible in drafting and administrative roles.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review and for your time at EB. We're glad to hear that you found value in the variety of projects and the work/life balance we aim to provide - those are things we work hard to maintain. We would respectfully offer a different perspective regarding upward mobility for junior staff. Many of our senior leaders began their careers at EB in entry-level roles and have grown with the firm over time. Supporting career development and advancement is a priority of ours and something we approach very intentionally. We meet with every team member multiple times per year to discuss their goals and provide actionable next steps for their growth. We do wish we had a better chance to understand your perspective while you were here. If you're open to it, we'd welcome a conversation - please feel free to reach out. We are always looking for ways to improve. We hope your time at EB was a positive and fulfilling part of your career, and we wish you continued success moving forward.
