Highly political culture with strong emphasis on optics over outcomes - Manager Educate! Employee Review

Pros

Strong brand and mission on paper Some talented, hardworking individuals across teams Clear cultural language and stated values

Cons

Culture is performative rather than practical. Alignment with leadership narratives often matters more than actual delivery or results. Long-tenured staff hold most influence, making it difficult for new ideas or external experience to gain traction. “Culture fit” is frequently used to shut down dissent or innovation. Feedback is largely informal and political. What gets discussed behind closed doors often matters more than formal performance processes. Psychological safety is advertised but not consistently practiced. Diverse views are encouraged in theory, not in reality. Work tends to prioritize presentation and visibility over execution and impact. Onboarding focuses heavily on cultural immersion but offers limited practical enablement for doing the job effectively. Significant pay disparities exist across similar levels, with little transparency. Periodic restructuring or role eliminations create ongoing job insecurity. Advancement depends heavily on navigating internal politics rather than merit alone.

Pros

-Lot of responsibility given to ppl with few years of experience -Committed to Youth-First values -Committed to working with government and sustainability

Cons

-Staff are very overworked and paid below market value (candidates who are qualified and experienced turn down offers when they see pay scale) -Staff are regularly burnt out and overwhelmed -Hiring is based on commitement to organisation values and willingness to overwork -Expectation to be as motivated as co-founders about the mission is unrealistic -Not very recognisable org/brand for future jobs
