Top heavy with an over-reliance on a few key personnel responsible for the majority of the actual output.

The culture of the company is outstanding. I have worked at many companies and this one has managed to forge a culture better than the rest. A greater than average number of employees are very competent and are focused on the success of the company, they don't just turn up, put in their hours and leave. This makes for a good, collaborative atmosphere. Staff are, broadly speaking, highly trusted and expected to do their jobs well and thus given a lot of freedom about how they go about achieving that. This allows staff to learn more and do more than they might at larger organisations. Total compensation packages are good. There is less variability on bonuses compared to the other asset managers. This works to the employees' advantage in the less good times, and to their disadvantage in the good time.

As a small company, there are more limited opportunities for rising as one gets higher up the pyramid. This has been addressed in the past few years for those lower down at the fatter end with a good level of success, I feel.
