Great concept, poor execution - Program Mentor Economic Mobility Pathways Employee Review

The EMPath direct service workload ratios vary across the organization. In our Emergency Assistance shelters the staff to participant ratio is 1:11. Yes, eleven participants to 1 mentor. In CFO and Mass LEAP, the ratio of staff to participants is between 1: 20/30. (These two programs are long-term five-year engagements; shelter programs are of shorter duration.) In the challenging Whittier Choice program four coaches have engagement with 120 to 200 families. In this program mentors serve as both specialists and generalists. Across the board, talented staff members do experience frustrations and joys. The work is human work. Self-care is integral to our internal training and practices. The organization permits and encourages flexible work schedules, vacation taking, time to reflect and change course as needed. Active listening is so important. It rivals trust as a much needed core disposition in our valuable work. Thank you for sharing.
