Pros
- Eataly is a successful company and brand - it takes smart and talented people to create that. - Have respect for what they created in NYC and nationally even though they are moving to a more sterile mall presence - Eataly can be a good place to work depending on your department, instead of being a waitress at some restaurant, you can be a career server at Eataly with benefits, paid time off etc as opposed to working at a smaller restaurant with none of those things - There is more career mobility in the stores than in corporate
Cons
- I left because (1) I felt it was unprofessional and going to bring me down, (2) I realized I would never move up due to favoritism and (3) the salary and benefits were so poor that 1 and 2 were not worth it. - when I onboarded, roles and responsibilities were unclear because someone had been doing my job on an interim basis and didn't want to let go. I had to fend for myself and figure it out. The person who hired me was unavailable to chat with me, assimilate me into personalities, explain context to me and set the record on roles and responsibilities which is what a manager should do. No one was there to help me. I had no direction. Then my hiring manager abruptly left the company. - I witnessed some incredibly toxic personalities and cliques and some of those people were even promoted. The cliques were mainly around people who started Eataly Flatiron together 10+ years ago and that's all they know. They will speak Italian in front of you and not even make eye contact or switch to English when you walk in. The inability to deal with supremely toxic individuals, mean, catty, bullying and promote them tells you what they value. Across several departments, Marketing/PR, Finance, IT, Benefits/HR. - salary way below market and very stringent rules on using your very little paid time off. 30 day waiting period for health insurance which, for a corporate salaried environment, is not competitive. When I joined I was nervous to leave the house not being insured for 30 days! The 401K has a one year wait for a match. Parental leave wasn't anything to aspire to. Again, for restaurant servers, I understand the high volume and turnover but it's not competitive at a corporate HQ level.
