Pros

-Great pay for work at home job-usually $13-$15 an hour and up! -Flexibility in scheduling- if you are not able to work on particular day then you simply don't make yourself available. Scheduling is done monthly several weeks in advance. For example- you submit your availability for December during the first week of November. You schedule for December is confirmed the 3rd week of November. -Shift cancellation policy pays for half of your shift if canceled with less than 24 hours notice. -If you don't like to deal with a lot of people when working, this is the job for you- you will only deal with your immediate supervisor (Scoring Leader) and maybe their supervisor, though it is rare (Chief Scoring Leader). You do not interact with other raters. -Most of the initial training is self paced based on the program- either 4 or 8 hours.

Cons

- Raters should be aware of the program they are hired for- not all programs are year round and give consistent work. This is stated in the job descriptions. Some jobs are just for a couple weeks, one or two times a year. For these programs employees should not expect full time work. ETS frequently hires months in advance. -Some Scoring Leaders (a Rater's immediate supervisor) apply the scoring rubrics inconsistently. Some provide tons of feedback during a shift for potentially "wrong" scoring while others are so overwhelmed with their work load they don't provide feedback at all. -I have been turned down for some programs when I have gained the experience needed in the job description by working other programs (scoring non-English speakers, for example). This is not consistent! -Sometimes, my shift has been changed to earlier in the day with no notice (email or phone) -No benefits for work from home raters

Pros

Support of immediate management and coworkers makes coming to work every day a pleasure.

Cons

Where to start... First, the employee performance evaluation process and methodology has changed from 1) performance vs your job description to 2) OKRs which were completely unattainable and meaningless at every level to 3) rocks and outcomes which again have very little to do with the day to day jobs of most employees. It seems the burden for goals and objectives and performance management has shifted from management to employees as they try to define a methodology that holds only doers responsible for the company's success. All this since Amit Sevak took over. Management manipulated the questions in a recent employee survey to force responses that made it look like there was improvement year over year. Of course, when you add a new President between the employees and the CEO peoples opinion of senior management is improved. Of course when you shift the focus to immediate management from senior management, the responses will be improved. Try issuing the exact same survey as the prior year and see how much "real" improvement there was in the numbers.
