Pros

Great array of interesting multidisciplinary jobs, with a focus on media architecture. Democratic team structure with many talents. Easy access to principal. Good hours and very pleasant working conditions- not a hipster enclave. Wide range of skills within staff. Very smart and kind principal. Attention being paid to company shortcomings with structural and staffing reforms in the works.

Cons

The democratic team structure can also lead to a too many cooks problem. Many meetings. Project management and marketing need strengthening. Principal sometimes has strong opinions that can override the design team. But these are worth enduring for the kind of work we get to do and company self awareness is at an all time high.

Pros

- Drinks on fridays - Nice office / views - Advanced IT dept

Cons

So many things... Management & Culture - ESI breeds a high-school like environment, in that it's very clear the old dogs run things and play favorites. If you're looking to get ahead or work in a different way than they like, you're out of there. They will not work with you, you need to be prepared to bend to their will or be let go. What's more frustrating is I had major challenges when I started because of the previous person's work. It was poorly designed and executed and needed a complete overhaul. There was no onboarding and when I asked for assistance or background information, no one could help me because they didn't even know and weren't willing to figure it out. I don't think anyone understood the challenge of the environment I was given. Definitely was not explained to me when I took the position. However, they were not concerned with my adjustment, only that I put bandaids over bullet wounds. Bottom line: no one there actually cares about you, your work or value. Only that you get challenging tasks done on their timetable. Otherwise, you're gone. Perhaps that's why they use so many freelancers. They like to dispose people.
