Pros

You will dive into the problem set - which tends to be highly coupled. You will tackle problems not only from "engineering" but business and operations vantage point. Problems are interesting, and fairly niche (better than CRUD) - they relate to operations of mission-critical live systems. Since every utility both from business and operations perspective are set differently - encompassing all in scalable solutions is challenging. It's worth solving. What I like about, is everyone is open to criticism and is willing to listen.

Cons

The company tends to work extremely aggressively, and heavily customer-obsessed, and then can mean a shift in priorities on a reoccurring basis

Pros

Relative independence: Given a goal or priority, you're given the freedom to define an approach and commit to it. Direct exposure to outcomes: When you deliver a feature, you know exactly who's using it and will get feedback on how they feel about it. Ethical industry: You're not trying to collect and sell user data. You're helping organizations gain insight into their water usage and giving them tools to act on this insight. Nice humans: At Emagin, I am able to relate to people honestly and productively with compassion. At previous jobs, I've been dismissed and felt like I wasn't being taken seriously.

Cons

Working in a startup can feel hectic and disorganized. New people are added. Teams are re-organized. Communication habits need to be established. This can feel stressful for some people, as it can feel as if the management is apathetic or uncaring. Related to this "dynamicism", there are multiple occasions when claims were made and then not provided. For example: - Computer hardware, such as laptops and monitors predicted to arrive within a month have not arrived 6 months later - Insurance coverage, claimed to be fulfilled before the next year, delayed until Series A funding is acquired. Neither of these are particularly important to me, but over-confidence can feel like deception for some. Compensation is okay. If I cared, I could "sell out" and go work for some adtech company, but instead I'm staying.

Pros

- I could name a number of things that I love about Emagin, but the single most important thing to me was how much the Founders believed in me. Management go out of their way to make time to ensure the work we do allows us to grow in our careers for the long term. - Everyday you collaborate with smart, mission-driven developers and engineers that bring the best out of you on a day-to-day basis. - The tech speaks for itself, if you’re looking to work with AI/ML technologies, this is the place to be. Their product is well known in the industry. - The diversity and work culture is amazing! They have weekly events and activities like board games, sports and even VR gaming!

Cons

- I think with every startup, it is expected that you will have tough deadlines to hit, it’s definitely a fast paced environment but what company isn’t? - No matter where you work, work-life balance can always be challenging. I think it comes down to how the individual handles it.
