Amazing small company which is growing fast - Help Desk Consultant Dynamic Computing Employee Review

Pros

Dynamic Computing is a great company filled with knowledgeable and very close knit workers. The atmosphere is "work hard, play hard", the company has monthly paid outings, they celebrate birthdays as well as workiversaries on the company dime. DC truly has the best work culture out of any of my previous employments. Management here wants everyone to be rewarded for learning more and progressing as an employee -- they pay for study materials and will reimburse you for all technical tests once you've successfully passed. There currently is marginal room for advancement, but the way the company has been growing lately I'm positive there will be plenty of opportunities in the near future. The benefits are all paid by the employer -- you get health and vision which start immediately after getting hired. Company matched investments and HSA start 6 months after your hire date.

Cons

There is so much information that must be learned since Dynamic Computing supports so many different clients. It makes getting up to speed a little stressful, but you always have your teammate and an escalation person who is more than happy to help you. Another con is that you only have PTO -- yes, sick leave and vacation is rolled into one.

Pros

You get to do a wide variety of tasks, so things rarely feel repetitive.

Cons

Nobody to talk to. You can commiserate with coworkers, but the company is tiny, and revolves around the owner, who often inserts himself to yell at people, while being generally disconnected from anything actually happening beyond sales/finances. Any criticism singles you out, and you end up with a target on your back. There are only the "in" group, and the "out" group. The company has been around since the 90s, but doesn't appear to have grown at all beyond possibly making the owner more wealthy. Any talk of improving things generally gets hand-waved away, and you end up discouraged, and deflated. As you learn the company lore, you find out about a troubling history of favoritism, including wild office parties, and excused behavior that would be beyond the pale anywhere else, but is apparently acceptable so long as you're part of the 'clique'. Pay is laughable, and benefits just shrink every single year. Food/snacks in the office are a mix of expired food, frozen burritos, and beer.

It’s hard to do the right thing all the time. We’re going to do our best to debunk this review while still taking the high road. The reviewer was just fired for cause for clear misconduct (here’s the RCW that defines misconduct for clarity: https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=50.04.294). He’s pissed at us about it. But he should be mad at himself. Nobody made him behave the way he did. He deserved to get fired, and we’re glad that he’s gone. We work really hard to do the right thing by our team, hence the other 17 glowing reviews. We have awesome food, great parties (that sadly aren’t wild at all), and almost everyone on our team in leadership has risen through the ranks with time. PS, none of the snacks are expired. Seriously? We’ve doubled the size of our business in the past 5 years and we love to hire, train and empower people to do great work. We hope you’ll join us on that journey if you’re reading this and are interested in applying for a job with us. We’ll get back to our mission now that we’ve cleared up this pile of misinformative garbage.
