Pros

Pros for an employee? You can possibly get away with a lot. There are a lot of supervisors, too many probably, People (downstairs) hang out in bathrooms, sometimes for an hour at a time without any disciplinary action. They do offer company picnics and some other special events. Donut days, ice cream days, pizza etc. They seem to offer some flexibility with working your hours if you're upstairs. They do offer overtime in general. Sometimes there is a need to help stuffing envelopes. They have implemented a bit of a "convenience store" if you will, where you can buy foods from refrigerators and displays and scan/pay yourself. I am hoping that since I've left, there has been more positive change.

Cons

First and foremost, wages. They severely underpay everyone. How do I know? I've talked to upstairs folk and downstairs folk. Some people know they could get paid more elsewhere but still choose to stay- that's on them, but even some insiders say the company can easily afford to raise wages but choose not to. Maybe a quarter if you're lucky. OR, you REALLY have to FIGHT for it. Secondly, going to management for problems is mostly fruitless. It was so rare that my concerns or ideas were acknowledged that after some time, I just stopped going to anyone. And when I would be told that things would change, or I'd get help with something, it would very rarely, if ever, happen. Lies from a particular person in upper management was unfortunately common, but because they have an outgoing personality, they probably thought no one would be the wiser. Well, the employees are keen on that, even though they might not speak up. Thirdly, they tout a "family" atmosphere but it is so far from. "Moving up" is also a myth. There is very limited "growth" here. You can be the hardest working person in your department, and there might be an opening for something, but they'll choose someone else for whatever reason. They drive the good, hard workers away. In my time there, I had seen a number of good people quit because they weren't being acknowledged, offered higher wages, or better positions. When upper management literally says, "you will not make big bucks here" you know the livlihood of the employees is lower priority. They'll mask it with offering their picnics and other "special" events to try and keep people happy, but upon surveying a lot of the employees, they'd rather skip that fluff and have higher wages. For some perspective , I came in with many years of experience in my field and they still undershot my request by a measly couple bucks. For one, I should have asked for more actually. I was too reserved in my ask. Secondly, I should have taken that as a red flag and ran, but I was told it was a "risk" hiring someone and they had to "feel me out first", and then told raises were regular so I'd work up to my asking very quickly. Once I found out my supervisor wasn't even making what I had asked, I knew I had to get out fast (the same year I left, I found a job for $16K MORE per year, plus 1K bonuses. There are better options, people!)
