Pros

It started off okay, but it got FAKE and very shady over time.

Cons

I was laid off WITHOUT WARNING !!! … Heads up… lots of layoffs are coming at Duke Energy. I regret even wasting my time with Duke. What a shady company and the mid-level managers all the way up to the executives have a very poor vision. They don’t have funds for anything, and are turning over every rock and looking for reasons to lay people off. This isn’t a drill. If you work at Duke Energy, you need to brace yourself. Management has been acting shady for the last 3-4 weeks with closed-door meetings and budgets suddenly tightening. Also, a lot of projects were getting paused suddenly, and a lot of the people I know went radio silent. I've seen this before. Same exact pattern, just at a different company. Leadership will try to pretend that everything is fine right up until the moment you get the email and your calendar access disappears and THEY LOCK YOUR LAPTOP. They won't give you warning. They won't care about your family, your bills, or how loyal you’ve been. I got laid off without warning. How stupid and how shameful of them. I gave all my energy and my best efforts to Duke... And now? This is a slap in the face. Morale is in the gutter, but no one’s allowed to talk about it. People are worried and I’m sick of the silence and surprised that nobody else posted on here??? Speak up, what are you afraid of? Greedy corporate overlords? If you’ve got options, get out now. Start exploring other opportunities now… Don’t wait until it’s too late. Don’t say no one warned you. Wishing you the best of luck.

Pros

Keep in mind this is in the eyes of an intern but: - employees are friendly and willing to help if asked - lots of learning opportunity - projects in which you can apply what you learned - lenient WFH

Cons

- the quality of your project can be dependent on which team you are on and your mentor guiding you

Pros

Strong job stability in a regulated utility environment, along with competitive pay and solid benefits package. My immediate team is genuinely supportive and collaborative — we work well together and have each other's backs. The work itself offers a sense of purpose given the essential nature of the industry.

Cons

Upper management operates with limited transparency and decisions flow strictly top-down, with little visibility into the reasoning behind strategic choices. The compensation structure does not differentiate for high performers — annual raises tend to land at or below inflation. Work groups across the department are heavily siloed, which limits cross-functional collaboration and slows knowledge sharing and adds frustration.
