Pros

- Nonprofit that provides essential services to animals in the community - Employees that truly care about their work - Talented and compassionate medical team- some of the most inspiring individuals I've met - Small enough where you get to know (or at least recognize) a majority of the staff - Additional hospital space coming in 2024 - Good health insurance options and student loan repayment

Cons

- A lot of high priority work, everything seems critical so it can be hard to balance workload - Opportunities for growth/promotions can be limited

Pros

The staff is wonderful! People who really love and care about animals. They will literally work themselves to burnout trying to do everything they can to help animals and their coworkers.

Cons

MANAGEMENT. Toxic and hostile environment, high turnover due to burnout and firing people without any previous discussions or write-ups., intimidation tactics. Don't bother trying to have an open discussion with management or going to HR because management and HR are buddy-buddy. As soon as you bring up a concern or ask for clarification, you're put on their radar for being difficult or threatening their position. Management is absolutely not held accountable for their lack of involvement (or lack thereof). They will come up with policy changes that do not make actual sense for the work position, but refuse to take feedback from the staff that are doing the job. They think they know best, despite being able to do the actual job themselves. There is very little chance to advance or work in a different department, despite open positions and being an employee. They will make up excuses to keep you in the position you were hired for. Reviews are always late and are only pursued when the employee continuously asks; they do not give back-pay for raises, even if they are the reason the review is overdue by months. When you give feedback on your review, there is no follow-up from HR or management, except to place a target on your back. They will look for any possible reason to fire you and then will fight your access to unemployment. They expect people to work whenever they ask, because they cannot keep a full staff in any department. If you are unable to help cover shifts or work late, you're treated like you aren't a team player. If you are put on an improvement plan, you should start looking for another job, because your time is ticking. Be ready to be treated passively aggressively with things like having to text your manager when you clock-in, because apparently them reviewing the time clock is too hard and they want to be petty about it. If you take medical leave, start looking for another job, because they are already planning on how to replace you. Need to take leave because of the mental stress they hand out? Use your time off to look for another job. They hire new employees with little to no experience and then will pay them more than their current employees. They do not provide adequate training to new employees and then wonder why people continuously quit. There's an extreme lack of communication and support from management.
