Pros

Without doubt one of the most practical engineering consultancies in Australia. No one provides better service to the construction industry or covers the breadth of small to very large investigation and design projects. Douglas Partners provides considerable freedom for project managers to develop their career and create their own client base and offers young PMs support with difficult tasks and clients when required. Douglas Partners is an excellent place to foster and develop a young career with many staff who have done so now managing offices around the country. I have personally found that reward comes from sustained effort, and although the wait is sometimes a little longer than preferred, the reward is generous. The culture is positive, relaxed and mostly friendly. Many people come and stay for a long time and that is my plan too. There are many rewards in addition to salary that provide better incentive for employee retention. I'd recommend Douglas Partners to any serious geotechnical engineer or environmental scientist looking for place to settle in and enhance their career.

Cons

At times it can be a place of work that is a little too serious, which is generally because the office is normally quite busy. Expect to juggle several things at once. You're always on the go. The focus is a little financial but that is changing and softening.

Pros

- Nation-wide company, opportunity to relocate to other states or city - Huge knowledge base from a bigger company with lots of big names in the industry - Good reputation in the industry

Cons

- Much harder to change the smallest of things because the system is less flexible being in a corporate - Long hours - Can get really busy when big projects are on and hard to have work life balance (but that’s the entire construction industry)
