Pros

The people that work there are wonderful and talented people. Everyone jokes that the one thing the CEO does right is hire good people.

Cons

The CEO has no idea what she is doing. If she wasn't the CEO, she would have been let go long ago. We're all baffled at how she was able to secure funding in the first place. She will change the product code and hire/fire employees without telling anyone. She is confused by the most simple concepts and when presented with any problem, her response is always, "You just need to follow process." She will then send you a Google doc with some random phrases typed on a page that either don't make any sense or are the most basic concepts like "Make patient happy. Don't get bad review." She gets angry and blames people and gets defensive anytime anything goes wrong. If a patient leaves a negative review, she will impulsively demand that the provider be fired, even when the team shows her evidence that the patient was at fault (example: patient was filling multiple controlled substance prescriptions from multiple providers at different pharmacies and the provider was doing their job by not agreeing to illegally prescribe more stimulants to this patient). Someone told her that the key to unlocking company growth was to hire more providers, but no matter how much we try, we can't get her to understand that providers are licensed by state, and that we have to hire strategically by state. We can't hire 10 providers in a state where the current providers can't fill their schedules with appointments. She wanted to respond to a public patient review with the patient's confidential health information. It took the entire company, including the Chief Medical Officer, arguing with her over Slack for hours to convince her that this would be a HIPAA violation. Her response was "I took HIPAA class, and this is not what HIPAA was meant for." Yes, Ruthia, this is exactly the kind of situation that HIPAA was meant for. She expects people to work full days over the weekend for completely non-urgent work. She doesn't care if you have vacation plans or a family, and if you try to advocate for yourself or your team, she will retaliate. One woman (who was amazing at her job) tried to carefully suggest that the team might need better work-life balance. She fired her within a few days with no plans on how to replace her on an already very understaffed team. The CEO is constantly interfering with product development and won't let the product team do their job, and she makes really terrible product decisions. Patients frequently complain that the product is confusing and difficult to navigate, and Ruthia blocks most efforts to fix these product issues. The team cannot keep good engineers because of her. It often feels like she is trying to sabotage the company. She will spend weeks trying to pick out what kind of freebie stress ball to send customers while ignoring key business functions that are falling apart. She also has no idea what the company is going to do when the public health exception ends and providers are going to have to see a patient face-to-face before a controlled substance can be prescribed.
