As a female hostess they MAKE you wear heels and you are not allowed to sit... even if you have a 12 hour shift! insane. Also, you are just a number.. so in my experience I made a deal with the owner when I was hired for a promotion to a different position once I hit a 6 month milestone (because I had so much experience and, understandably, a probationary period would get me comfortable with the business as well as show my strengths.). I had worked for them for almost 2 years and those promises were never delivered. When I finally took a stand after being led on, I was shown exactly where the door was... I was reliable, pleasant, and eager.... so it was definitely not because I didn't earn it.... you are just a number there at the end of the day and they'll replace you in a week. That's the restaurant business though. What can you do.
