Pros

There is literally ONE pro to my time working here: I met a few incredible people who I’m lucky enough to still call my friends. Unfortunately, all of these people were fired at some point, with little to no explanation why. All of the firings were abrupt—regardless of work ethic, skill level, or even value to the company (from a numbers/social/morale standpoint). People who had just moved or were about to move cross-country for their job were dropped without warning or reason, but I'm getting ahead of myself. There's a whole "Con" section I'm dipping into now.

Cons

1) BENEFITS: The company started with a base set of benefits that were meant to get better with time. The “health insurance” was a poor excuse for a benefits package. A few other perks were thrown in to compensate for the lack of health insurance, but management eventually decided to take those away. In fact, “vacation days” were later designated a myth. 2) WORK HOURS: Apparently, 24/7 is the accepted work hours. Anything less is inadequate. You may think I’m exaggerating, but this was exactly what management said. “We work 24/7. We don’t have weekends off.” 3) GROWTH: Umm… what’s growth? Sorry, that doesn’t exist at Distractify. You come in as a servant, you get fired as a servant. End of. 4) MUTUAL RESPECT: See GROWTH. 5) WORK ETIQUETTE: I’m not going to write “See GROWTH” again, but… yeah, there’s no etiquette. Some might see this as a good thing. “So, it’s laid back?” Not quite. There’s just a lot of profane humor at the expense of races, sexes, and sexual orientations beyond that of a straight white man. The number of times phallic images/gifs have been shared, and the number of racial slurs used are appalling and simply unacceptable. 6) FEEDBACK: This, like many other necessary elements to a company in this industry, is nonexistent. There is zero feedback. Don’t even think about asking for any because that will only get you fired. Really. It’s happened. 7) MANAGEMENT / SENIOR STAFF: This is the big one. Basically, the “senior” staff consisted of the most incompetent of the crew. No one knew what they were doing. One “Managing” Editor (who was later abruptly demoted, as ordered by the dictatorially infamous CEO) has no concept of grammar or technical skills to be writing/editing anyone else’s work. In fact, said editor had awful social skills, too. When you “manage” you need to know how to talk to people and use phrases beyond that of a child. You can only refer to work being “ham sandwich” so many times. CONCLUSION: At first, it seems like a sweet deal—getting paid to write on the Internet? What an absolute joy! Except, there’s no growth, the pay does not justify the ill treatment, and the undeserved egos of the management is simply not worth anyone’s time or energy. I didn’t even go into what an embarrassment it is to be associated with a company with a bad reputation and the effect this site's sullied relationship with other websites may have on your future career. It truly is a stain on all of our résumés. Like many of the other reviews, great blame can be placed on the CEO (who has recently been expunged, though it’s simply too late), the founders (who didn’t know how to run anything, fanboy’d over the soon-to-be CEO, and basically handed the company to him), and the sheepish “management” who had no managerial skills to speak of. Please take note of all these reviews and: “If you value your dignity, do not work here; Seriously, don’t work there; Avoid Avoid Avoid; Avoid Distractify Like The Plague - Especially If You’re Female.”
