Seemed promising at first but turned into quite a toxic work environment - Junior Software Engineer Distinction Employee Review

Pros

Flexible working hours, there was a nice office location, could enjoy a laugh with the team.

Cons

Out of date laptops that made it difficult to work efficiently. Everyone was forced to work overtime when projects were likely to run over even if the deadlines were unrealistic in the first place. Code based were extremely out of date and unorganised. Constant issues with tech, super unreliable VPN. All projects are very difficult to get set up on your machine which wastes a lot of time. You are required to log how you spend every minute of your day, including breaks, if you are under on your hours you will get in trouble. I was also told that I would be let go after working there for about 5 weeks if I didn’t take over answering tickets instead of being a developer.

Pros

I can only assume the 1-star review on here is fake as the company never had any junior software engineers (I was employed at the same time as the reviewee claimed to work there). My experience was positive, and my line manager really helped me grow as a developer. I received regular training and felt very supported when tackling new challenges. You work on high-profile projects, which I really enjoyed.

Cons

I left as there wasn't room for progression at the time, which was a shame. As a small company, you'll inevitably hit a plateau in terms of pay and experiences.
