Pros

I worked at Digitally Imported as an engineer for just over 10 years and I truly value the opportunity they gave me. They are an amazing group of people; talented, hard working and genuinely care about the product. I joined early on in my own career and also when DI was just starting out. As a result, I was placed in many challenges situations that enabled me to grow both my technical and leadership skills. I directly attribute where I am today as a result of these experiences. The C team values input and feedback from individual contributors and I always felt like I had a voice in what we were doing. DI is a remote friendly culture, and provides flexible working hours while still enabling a work/life balance.

Cons

While the company has been around for many years, its almost entirely self-funded so the team is small. As a result you need to be comfortable wearing many hats. This can be great for personal growth, but it requires the right mindset. During my time, there was no people management or mentorship. While my technical skills grew, there was very little opportunity for soft skill growth or thoughts of personal career development. Since moving on, I can see tremendous value in providing things like regular 1:1's with the team.

Pros

I worked with DI.FM for many years and overall really enjoyed the company culture and team. I was on the operations side of the business, not in IT/Development so I can mostly speak to that. The company offered a lot of freedom to contribute leadership and ideas, and the management was always open to hearing input from anyone, regardless of their title. As a result, the company offered me great opportunity to grow in my career and take ownership of things beyond what was in my job description.

Cons

For anyone who is self-motivated and can create their own structure, DI.FM is a great place to work. If you're someone who likes to do only what's in your job description or have a very predictable workflow, you might not like it. The company still operates like a start-up in many ways, so employees are often required to wear many hats and juggle competing priorities with limited resources.
