Pros

I was able to make connections with colleagues and learn the basics of SEO and financial services.

Cons

This company cares more about making money than their employees’ mental health. Employees voiced concerns about being overworked, underpaid, and company culture. No changes were made. Senior leadership failed to set boundaries with clients which led to employee burnout and extreme workloads. This job made me feel like a robot. There was an obvious fear of making mistakes and being publicly embarrassed as a result. Senior leadership preached emotional intelligence but showed narcissistic tendencies. As soon as I was no longer viewed as an asset to the company, I was shut out. I was never offered an exit interview or any sort of thank you for my time. Disappointing and unprofessional.

Pros

At Digital Storyteller, we promise all of our employees that they will be a better person and a better marketer by the time they leave. We invest in leadership and emotional intelligence training to facilitate the former and a collaborative culture to facilitate the latter.

Cons

Starting salaries are not the highest, but the work flexibility and culture of support make up for it.

Pros

I met some really awesome peers and I learned about topics I wouldn’t have had exposure to otherwise.

Cons

What started as a job that valued growth, leadership opportunities, and trainings turned into an environment that valued “running at the wall” to produce overpromised products for clients. I constantly felt overworked, undervalued and underpaid. At first, the causal environment was refreshing, but that quickly became a pain point. Professional boundaries were often crossed when upper management spoke with staff. The lack of accountability in leadership paired with comments to staff led to an environment run by fear of making any mistakes and fear of not meeting unrealistic deadlines. I didn’t feel well prepared for the roles I stepped into. It felt like the majority of what I had to learn was on on me to figure out even though I was promised that it was okay to ask questions and I would be taught. Off-boarding itself was also a tough experience. I had to ask for an exit interview, which was mostly run by me. Overall, I think an actual HR department that kept leadership accountable, and that actually assisted employees would have benefited the company greatly.
