Pros

This job will definitely challenge and enhance your design and sales skills. It is a very fast-paced and high-volume environment where creativity and innovative thinking are encouraged. The work is very rewarding - we get to help small businesses and first-time business owners create their logos, and packaging designs. We also get to be involved in the printing and manufacturing process by proofing the physical samples and working with the production team to ensure everything turns out exactly how the client wanted. The benefits are great – healthcare, vision, and dental after 90 days, plus a 401(k) with a 6% match after a year. They also conduct performance evaluations every quarter, which I find really refreshing. No other job that I’ve ever had offered this. You get to meet one-on-one with your team lead to go over your progress and discuss your growth within the company. Overall, this is a great place to work if you are looking for a fast-paced environment with opportunities for personal growth, where you get to help people grow their businesses.

Cons

While the starting pay was a bit lower than I had hoped for, I received consistent raises during my quarterly evaluations. We often take on rush jobs with very tight deadlines, so there is not a lot of downtime. However, the team works hard together to meet these deadlines. If you’re looking for an easy job, this might not be the right fit for you.

Pros

This company is ran by three relatively young individuals who harness an ample amount of passion. It was an interesting adjustment at first because the business world I'd experienced prior was fairly lackadaisical. It wasn't long before I could appreciate how hard working and technical this team is. The owners, artists, and production team is nothing shy of hard working. In essence, an energy I encourage all to experience at least once in your life time. It will move you, but its not for the faint of heart, it is not by any means a hand out and you will be working.

Cons

I tend to look at what I can gain from my experience.

Pros

It's a fine first job for those seeking employment after graduating, or for the short term. You learn quite quickly how to work under intense pressure, and become extremely savvy in Adobe Illustrator as a result. A few of the things I learned was setting up files for multi-plate printing, using an Adobe Fresco to Adobe Illustrator workflow, and customer service.

Cons

While I learned some valuable technical lessons during my time at Design and Customize, it was an extremely taxing job mentally and emotionally. Due to the small size of the company, designers were expected to illustrate, set up files for print, proof print jobs, answer phone calls, answer social media DMs, work the front desk, make sales pitches, lead in-person meetings, film ourselves drawing for social media, handle customer deposits, and much more. My day was a constant push and pull of tasks assigned to me, all demanding my attention. If I made an error on any of these tasks, management was very harsh and would often yell at employees. Pay was a joke, especially for the expensive area the office is located in. I was told I'd get a raise after a number of months, which turned out to be an extra 50 cents an hour. My male coworker was offered an extra $1 an hour even though we had been working the same amount of time and I was entrusted with more complicated projects than him at the time. Either way, 50 cents to a dollar raise is an embarrassing offer for the amount of work we were putting in every day. Luckily, I was able to find work elsewhere which paid me a living wage, so I didn't have to endure the grueling working conditions for too much longer after that.
