Pros

New office location. Small family company. Rapidly growing business. Open 24/7

Cons

Negativity in management that trickles to overall attitude and culture of workplace, which makes overall client attitude negative. Poor pay for industry and area. Advancement given to favoritism. Lots of punishments but no rewards or recognition. Understaffed and employees are overworked with >40 hours a week and mandatory overtime. No fixed work week schedule, where you have to work mornings and past midnight. Schedules are based on “seniority”. No weekends or holidays. No breaks. No organization in the chaos of the unmanageable workload.

Pros

DCRX provides innovative technology and clinical services for hospice and palliative care patients, while serving as a partner (instead of competitor) to hospice agencies. I practiced at nearly the top of my pharmacist license. I learned something new every day. It was interesting to work mostly with hospice nurses. Although the company serves hospice providers all over the country, I had a rapport with many nurses who knew me by my voice when I returned a page. I had "remote friends" from Hawaii to the east coast. My company and hospice colleagues were incredible. I gained a lot of experience in a very important and oft-overlooked area of pharmacy and healthcare which I feel has had a great positive impact on my career since then. In other words, it made me a better pharmacist and a better person.

Cons

I left my amazing position because after a few years I developed mental health struggles related to the difficult nature of patients served. Working midnight shift is challenging on one's mental health, anyway. Add to that the challenge and heartache one experiences when caring exclusively for dying patients, and it was too much for my young heart and mind to handle. If I could go back in time I would have made some different decisions to better mitigate those difficulties.
