Pros

Good benefits, compensation is at or above average (in my department), leadership is transparent, although not always timely with information sharing. The product has a lot of potential, if the company can be steered in the right direction. CEO has bold goals and hopefully we can achieve some of them.

Cons

After recent layoffs and given where the company is financially, we should be acting like a startup, but we are not. The structure should be flatter instead of more hierarchical. Some upper-management folks don't seem to be adding any value to the company. A very heavy focus on wokeism (a.k.a. "diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging"), but other than being a wasteful expense, it hasn't led to any obvious issues for those who don't subscribe to that ideology. Some employees have been spoiled by previous management to the extent that they feel they can dictate what leadership should do and what they will work on. New CEO made some bad people moves in response to departures in engineering which lead to even more talented people leaving. Engineering leadership has some great people but a couple of micromanagers who don't seem to have a clue what is going on but keep poking their noses and adding more "busy" work for teams. Several major initiatives seem to be stuck in neutral. Perhaps my biggest worry is that the company hasn't quite figured out how to make a product that will sell sustainably. Many talented people have left in the last few months because of a general lack of confidence in the company.

Pros

Degreed truly walks the talk when it comes to learning and development. The culture is inclusive, flexible, and remote-friendly. Leadership is transparent, and the education stipend and unlimited PTO are amazing perks. I feel trusted and valued.

Cons

Things can move fast and priorities shift quickly. Some leadership changes created a bit of uncertainty, but overall the communication and team support make a big difference.

Pros

Peer group is dedicated to success, open to collaboration, willing to team up on solutioning. Same can be said for partnering with other lines of business. I've never been shut down on asks.

Cons

The same with likely any software company... you want new features, your customers want new features and fixes, and you don't want to wait for them!
