Pros

Unfortunately, the only positive for me was realizing a litany of red flags to watch out for in the future

Cons

Joining Dataro turned out to be a challenging experience and one that didn’t align with my career expectations. While I initially approached the opportunity with optimism, it became apparent early on that the company's management style and workplace culture presented significant challenges. The individuals trusted with leadership roles appeared to lack the professionalism and refinement I’ve encountered in other workplaces. Additionally, the founders' expectations for employees seemed ambiguous, making it unclear what standards were actually achievable. As a result, the working environment felt difficult to navigate and contributed to a sense of instability. During my time there, I observed a lack of structured training or meaningful support, especially for new hires, which made mistakes unavoidable. Unfortunately, these mistakes often became grounds for harsh reprimands rather than opportunities for growth. The atmosphere fostered a culture of blame, where employees frequently felt the need to prioritize self-preservation over collaboration, throwing each other under buses to maintain their jobs. High employee turnover was a consistent issue, with many leaving after short tenures. A general piece of advice I'd offer to anyone job hunting: a startup where everyone is either a new joiner or has been around for years, with nothing in between, is a giant red flag. Among the interview reviews, concerns include that it's difficult to understand exactly what would meet the founders' standards, and that their leadership would create a problematic working environment. I would agree with both, with one thing to add: “never take criticism from someone who you wouldn't ask for advice". The company also offered minimal benefits, providing only what was legally required in many circumstances. As an example, I've never worked somewhere where the management has chosen to only invest in free tools, e.g. Google Suite over Microsoft office; and where not even notepads and pens are provided. Decisions such as laying off several employees, including newer hires, shortly before the holidays felt poorly timed and avoidable. While I gained valuable insights into the type of workplace culture I want to avoid, I would advise future candidates to carefully assess whether this environment aligns with their expectations and professional goals. I hope the company takes steps to refine its processes and support its employees to create a more positive and productive workplace.
