Pros

Great product, smart and driven people

Cons

Recruiters and sales leadership tell tales of newly-minted millionaires, massive deals and uncapped territories. This simply isn't true. If you joined in 2017 or earlier, you had less competition and were able to land good logos and explore many new accounts. The company is hiring dozens of people in every major area, leaving slim pickings to new hires. Worse, there is more pressure on new sales reps even though they don't have existing accounts (the source of most revenue). The pressure on new reps is seemingly higher even compared with reps who have been at Datadog for 2 years and haven't closed much. Managers tell reps one thing and then a completely different thing to their leadership. Expectations are not aligned throughout the organization.

Pros

Datadog has a strong product, smart coworkers, and a fast paced environment that teaches you a lot quickly. I learned a tremendous amount about observability, technical discovery, outbound prospecting, and how modern engineering organizations operate. The company has also gives reps exposure to large accounts and technical conversations early in their careers.

Cons

The ramp for newer AEs can feel steep, especially in a hgihly competitive outbound environment. Success often depends on timing, territory, pipeline momentum, and consistent coaching. There can also be a significant pressure tied to activity metrics and pipeline generations, which may be difficult for reps still developing confidence and process consistency.
