Pros

If you are experienced in dialysis and have a experience in additional fields, you can negotiate for pay better. I was able to make quite a bit more than I did at my previous job in Southern NJ (Atlantic City area). The job itself is easy, in the acute setting you are only preforming Hemodialysis on a maximum of two patients at a time. Some may find the flow a lot slower than chronic. There's good room for advancement if you look for it. There are many ways to get into leadership and many other tasks that can help you to earn more.

Cons

• As with any job, you never know who your co-workers will be. I traveled for this job, and there is a myriad of different personalities at each facility, some have stronger personalities than others and are not the most pleasant to work with. • It can be feast or famine, you may get crazy overtime, or you may not get enough hours to even be considered full time. This will bring your potential, and often you will need to work 4 days instead of three to make the money that you should have earned with only 3 days. • The patients are truly acute and more fragile. Treatment can be stressful. • Sometimes, it’s just boring. You could be sitting in a patient room while they sleep for 3-4 hours.

Pros

Patient connections is rewarding work, great hands on experience, paid on the job training, training for PCTs is at least consistent.

Cons

12+ hour long hours, emotionally and physically taxing, unqualified management, poor communication, inconsistent scheduling, high turn over, very little amount of opportunity for movement within the company despite preaching that they encourage it. The culture and values are heavily spoken about with little to no enforcement. The position requires significant dedication to learn all the moving parts of the clinic.
