Pros

The dialysis modality allows nurses to know their patients well, therefore, allowing one to more easily assess and monitor changes.

Cons

If you have your BSN, why join Davita? You have been educated in leadership, a problem-solver/change agent. Since 2008, when the clinical coordinator role (another manager) was introduced, actual RN monitoring on the floor was reduced, making policies a near impossibility to implement. Thus, when things go wrong, a culture of silence results, as no one wants to write incident reports. If you are considering joining this company, at least make an informed decision--google: Davita scapegoat. There -- a history lesson of how one nurse is narrowed down and made culpable when things go wrong in one of their units. New RN -- There are great jobs out there--my advice is to network, find a nurse manager, who will be your role model on which to build a career, never compromising your integrity to do what is right for your patient.

Pros

Patient connections is rewarding work, great hands on experience, paid on the job training, training for PCTs is at least consistent.

Cons

12+ hour long hours, emotionally and physically taxing, unqualified management, poor communication, inconsistent scheduling, high turn over, very little amount of opportunity for movement within the company despite preaching that they encourage it. The culture and values are heavily spoken about with little to no enforcement. The position requires significant dedication to learn all the moving parts of the clinic.
