Pros

Has ample parking and is located in a nice quiet town.

Cons

Manager G.L. (DSV Purfleet) is the most toxic, unwelcoming moody **** I've ever seen! I went for an introductory shift and while I showed up early and ready to get started (along with another two prospective employees) we soon went to familiarize ourselves with the mechanics of their FLTs (they use a joystick mast-control instead of levers or pull-buttons) within 10 minutes that sad sack was complaining about us to one of his regular employees saying things like "these muppets don't know what they're doing" yes, IN THE FIRST 10 MINUTES. He didn't give us a single word of instruction. Didn't tell us how many loads we are expected to fill, how the protocols work goods in/out, just expected us to magically understand all the intracicies of a new warehouse. I've worked at 4 or 5 different warehouses in the UK and they all had slightly different methods, equipment, rules ect. And since we weren't given any kind of induction or briefing, we just had to copy other staff members and ask them for advice. Even though we figured out the place within 20 minutes or so, manager was still acting like we're a bunch of useless kids. At times he even made a show of filling trailers without using the designated equipment. As if to say "look I'm an old man and if I can fill this trailer using only a pump truck so should you". Not that these trailers had any rules against FLT loading, G.L. just made it seem like we shouldn't be using FLTs even though that was the fastest, safest and most efficient means of filling said trailers. I feel genuinely sorry for the other staff members because they were all perfectly reasonable and welcoming to newcomers. Those two shifts I had at DSV purfleet were more than anyone should ever have to deal with such a manger, wouldn't go back there for £30/hour. I'm not exagurating at all, the only reason I'm taking the time and effort to write this review is to let people know what to expect. You will be given zero instruciton, zero goals or targets, just handed the keys to a truck and off you go, and even if you finish every piece of work there is to do in the entire warehouse, it still won't be good enough. What's more is they offer minimum wage and expect you to be some sort of maestro. Not sure where they're going with this constant hiring process because even if they find a perfect candidate, they'll just offer that person a zero-hour contract or just two weeks of work. I've noticed that since l left, they haven't stopped spamming the job boards every week, slightly increasing the pay but still below average for FLT drivers in the area. Can't imagine how disorganized the upper-management must be, but they are wasting their time with these job postings! Very few people would want to work there and even then they'll be lucky to get regular shifts, the juice is NOT worth the squeeze so I can imagine most new employees would just leave as soon as anything else becomes available. If you're an HGV driver you'll probably be fine, but anything else that requires working inside the warehouse, STEER CLEAR. Get a CSCS card, apply for fast food, go back to college, make a youtube channel, just do literally anything but work at DSV purfleet!
