Pros

Interesting work if you get on a decent project and get chances to explore/experiment. Almost a luck of the draw on if you get put on the work that is interesting, which you'll most likely be stuck on if the project continues. The peers are cool people to work with and the atmosphere is mostly chill when you're at the office. Coworkers did game nights, lunches together, played video games after work together, so it ends up being a somewhat close knit group that is very accepting of newcomers. This was the best part about this company but could vary depending on location.

Cons

Management at most times was the biggest con...They were difficult to communicate with most of the time and communication had to be constantly pursued by the subordinate. Training is almost non-existent, although it did get better with documentation in recent years to help newcomers. If you have a senior peer that has time to help train you to get caught then you're lucky. If you desire to transition to any other work than the work you get set on from the beginning then good luck...this is very difficult to pull off as management will fight you tooth and nail to do anything different than what they want you to do even if it highly correlates to your skill sets. Also, prepared to be underpaid big time if you are a skillful and highly productive employee...However, if you are looking to slack off and still get paid the same as the former highly talented employees, then this is your place! Consulting and justifying your pay to management does nothing... Travel can be very demanding and tedious for some projects and won't be to any place you'd usually want to travel to...

Pros

Solid work-life balance. I rarely worked late and all of my projects had distant deadlines. The projects I worked on were pretty relaxed and informal, i.e. a client would ask for support on some project and I'd provide it, no code reviews, agile boards, etc.

Cons

The pay increase schedule is a fairly generous annual adjustment (5-6%) but there's no pay bump for title changes so that's all you get. Additionally, the culture of my team at least didn't really promote career growth or skill learning. My manager gave me a lot of freedom to work as independently, but the tradeoff of that is that I didn't gain experience with code reviews, stand-ups, Agile, etc. Not as important if you already have a lot of experience under your belt but something to consider for a junior engineer.
