Pros

Overall development mission Some of the people you get to work with are great

Cons

There is no equity in matters of personnel, professional development, or compensation. After being here for 3 years, I have seen enough to say that the common denominator in promotions and professional growth opportunities is to be a man. This observation extends from junior positions to senior management. Performance reviews are hardly considered for the upward mobility of men, but weigh heavily on the upward mobility possibilities for women. Men are given career advancements based on potential while women are expected to demonstrate the skills of the desired position. Whether that is DAI’s intention or not, it’s a recognizable pattern that is problematic and that many, myself included, have brought up to senior management to no avail. There are also no significant feedback mechanisms to report equity issues at the company. The HR department is not forthcoming or transparent in their compensation and promotion considerations either.

Pros

Strong culture of integrity. Absolutely spectacular colleagues. Super interesting work.

Cons

Basically denuded of staff due to USAID cuts. Upper management had become obsessed with performance against metrics that were poorly fit to the business, and were focused entirely on how they might meet those metrics this week, without looking ahead to how to make structural improvements over the longer term.
