Pros

You can make good money

Cons

Working at D.R. Horton was a challenging experience. The company heavily focuses on micromanaging, which can make it difficult to feel trusted in your role. While they promote a team-oriented environment, the reality is that support is often reserved for an inner circle, leaving others to navigate challenges on their own. Employee experience and expertise are not always valued—what matters most is sales numbers. If you’re consistently closing deals, you’re seen as a good worker; if not, you may find yourself overlooked, regardless of your effort or experience. Constructive feedback and professional growth opportunities are limited unless you are in the right circles. For those who thrive in a high-pressure, sales-driven environment and can handle the politics, there may be opportunities for success. However, if you're looking for a company that values employees beyond just their sales performance, this may not be the best fit.

Pros

Large, established company with name recognition. Exposure to the homebuilding industry and opportunity to work with experienced teams.

Cons

Significant lack of clear expectations from the outset. The role was presented as a salaried role, flexible schedule (including work from home), during the hiring process and then upon accepting employment I was notified that the job was hourly with strict in the office presence required. Management was largely absent, especially during the first few months of employment. There was little to no onboarding support, limited communication, and minimal direct supervision. Expectations were not clearly defined, and guidance was often inconsistent or provided after the fact. Policies and boundaries were not clearly explained or documented, which created confusion around what was and was not permitted. Feedback was not provided in a timely or constructive manner, making it difficult to course-correct or align with leadership expectations. Overall, the environment lacked structure, clarity, and consistent leadership presence.
