Editorial staff is cooperative and open to grooming new reporters. Paper covers niche local topics that other outlets miss.
Cons
Notorious for low salaries, paying freelancers late or not at all. The place is years, maybe decades, behind the times with strategy (ie no Web presence), philosophy, etc. It will remain that way and die that way unless they bring in some innovative thinkers which is not likely with the low pay and management that is averse to change.
