Pros

The Marriott name looks good on your resume. An ethnically diverse workforce, but not tolerant towards international staff.

Cons

The particular hotel I worked at was a nightmare. Training was non-existent, and since they use one of the most complicated PMS systems around this is a must have! The front office manager kept a spreadsheet of every staff member and any mistake we made, so instead of bringing it up as it happened to help us improve, it belittled us and made us nervous for any conversation with him. Every member of staff was heavily over worked and very much under paid, which created a stressful and argumentative environment that guests picked up on and mirrored also. I don't think there was a single day we left less than an hour after we were supposed to. Mistakes are not allowed in this hotel, but they won't tell you what the mistakes are until two weeks down the line when your spreadsheet has built up a little bit (of course I am talking about non-obvious or non-intuitive things). I was so glad there was a 30 day leaving period, and got out of there on day 29 after being offered another job. No regrets leaving, only regret is joining in the first place.

Pros

The guests were always lovely, and made the job fulfilling.

Cons

Management was awful, no support from them. Favoritism, enabling one person something but not the other. No structure; expectations and rules change by the day. Upper management turns a blind eye to misconduct and abuse of all forms. No loyalty from the company to its employees. Wage theft, illegal time clock adjustments, sexual harrassment from superiors, hostile work environment, all condoned by upper management.
