Great Until it Wasn’t - Software Engineer Counterpointe Solutions Employee Review

Pros

Everything was good until contract losses lead to layoffs. Good culture, decent pay, good benefits. They gave all of us who were laid off a months notice which was good because it was in December.

Cons

The first signs that things were off were negative changes in culture. A lot of doublespeak. “Go slow to go fast,” “we’re trying to target an SLA of 5 days per feature,” “a lot of times the problem is people can’t adapt to our pace.” It was obvious the organization was in conflict, but why wasn’t obvious until the all hands.

Pros

It is fully WFH, so there's that

Cons

As other reviews have stated, the company appears to be at a crossroads and is not handling it well. Where to start? The company has no budget, so the moment government funding gets slashed, they have to let people go. Management does a lot of double speak (again, as previously mentioned) like "go slow to go fast" or the title of Career Manager (that's just a manager). Most concerning, the creators of the star product do not know how it works, described how it works incorrectly several times, and did not accept guidance on how it worked. And I know that because I actually looked at the code. The product itself seems like middleware at best. It is meant to be an AI project skeleton, but the example programs the company has to show it off are all things that can be done in a single bash command line. Picture spinning up several kubernetes clusters just to run "convert --append ...". Now picture those clusters not even working. That's the product. Several people in upper management are siblings, which is a huge red flag at any company. My current theory is that this company is a way for their parent company, Booz Allen, to deliver faulty products to the government in a way where if they're found out, they can cut ties and pretend they didn't know. Really would not recommend working here. If you're smart enough to work here, you're smart enough to work some place better.
