Pros

Working for CounterTack was a stimulating challenge, providing advanced endpoint security software solutions, using behavioral analysis, machine learning, and reputational techniques to address sophisticated malware threats using a massively scalable platform. Attacking hard problems at petascale. Not an easy job, but never boring. Some of the smartest and most talented folks I've ever worked with. They changed direction, and with very little seniority I was one of the many who didn't make the cut, but I'm not bitter about that -- it happens, and I learned a lot in my time there. Pays well if you have the chops to keep up.

Cons

The usual complaints about management shortsightedness. But more than that, a tendency to fall into the trap that many organizations are susceptible to -- getting too attached to an approach that probably just can't ever work. Looking back, I should have raised my voice about this earlier and more often. A lesson learned I guess.

Pros

Opportunities to work from home, great employees to work with, highly innovative company with cutting edge EDR product.

Cons

Just like any software company, there are release deadlines that require employees to work additional hours to deliver the release on time.

Pros

I had the pleasure to work at CounterTack for a short period during the summer between my sophomore and junior year at college, specifically with the Engineering (QA team) and Program Management teams. All in all, it was an extremely pleasant and informative experience in a burgeoning and ever-more relevant industry. Apart from the technical skills I was able to develop, specifically Python coding, the employees were incredibly helpful in going out of their way to ensure that I was up to speed with the rest of the team and taking the time to answer my questions. For example, Mr. Creighton personally made time to meet with me in the Waltham office, and Mr. Davis and Mr. Wolters had several calls with me prior to working to make sure that I had a list of goals and what would be the best way to go about achieving them. Also, working remotely went very smoothly.

Cons

Internship program is young and not yet well-defined, which requires the intern to seek out work a lot on their own if they want to maximize value from program. Not such a terrible thing though!
