Fast hiring process and more local contractor

Engineers get bogged down with clerical duties because the systems are outdated. Company does not pay for construction software, so basic stuff as simple as Microsoft excel and outlook will be down for days at a time. Software licenses are expired or non-existent, and they are so behind on basic contractor software and technology. Lots of conflicts of interest with personal affairs with management and assistants and a "good-old boys club". Racist and aggressive - entirely toxic environment on the project I was put on. Yelling and cursing in meetings and name calling when things do not go as planned. Little planning - no 90 day schedule and the CPM is updated by the PM and submitted late to the owner. Late submission means late payment to the contractor and in turn to their vendors. I can not see how this company makes money ---

Dear Project Engineer, Thank you for your feedback. Corman Construction is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and we pride ourselves in hiring and retaining a diverse team.We have an open-door policy to allow any and all employees to provide candid feedback and discuss concerns, to supervision, senior management and through Human Resources. We encourage employees to come forward to address any concerns promptly, so that we can resolve them before they escalate. We do try to gather exit information with departing employees to understand how we can do better, and I believe you may be an engineer who recently resigned and who had an exit interview, and issues of racism and a toxic environment did not arise. Having been on a number of our job sites and having been available for a discussion, I am surprised to hear of these concerns. As stated in our ethics policy and code of conduct, our staff is expected to report any known conflicts of interest, and may do so in person, via phone or via e-mail. Please feel free to contact me directly with any concerns at 301-575-9823. As to the IT aspects of the role, we are running the most current versions of ViewPoint and Primavera for Project Management/Costing and Scheduling, and I believe you may have received one-on-one training with our IT Director to help you use our systems. We have a full-time trainer, as well, to assist employees in building their understanding of our software. We did migrate to cloud-based solutions in several cases, and were able to overcome the normal challenges that come along with this type of change. On another note, there may be some misunderstanding about the Design-Build process. In the Design-Build environment, schedules frequently do changes (especially if critical paths change); however, we meet frequently with our clients to ensure that everyone is on the same page with schedule and progress. Having sat-in on progress meetings, we do understand the importance of designing and meeting project schedules for our clients. We produce monthly billings (as required by contract), and the payment of those billings by our clients dictates the payment to our subcontractors and vendors. For better or for worse, billing and change orders and RFI’s are part of the administrative processes for all members of the project management team. While these may not be the most exciting elements of the position, they are a reality of anyone involved in project management.
