Pros
Stable, guaranteed work. Safe environment. Knowledgeable staff.
Cons
No pay increases, EVER. Management does not care about staff; you will never even get a thank you for a job well done. Plenty of favoritism shown among management; certain favorite officers are chosen for promotions and time off. If you are not "popular" with management, there is no need to even interview for a promotion because you will not be judged based off ability, you are judged by if the upper management like you. The Assistant Warden of Operations screams at staff on a daily basis, and other management turns the blind eye. This is the most profitable ICE detention center owned by Core Civic, yet the staff are the lowest paid out of all the facilities. Mind you, 95% of the staff here are African American. Maybe there is a correlation. This is a facility paid under "wage determination", which means the staff wages are based upon the wages that the area the facility is in. There has not been a raise implemented at this facility for over 5 years; however, the wage determination has risen over 3 years ago. Still no raise for the staff. People that have worked here for 10 years are getting paid the same amount as someone who began working yesterday. When staff ask when the facility is getting a raise, they are shut down and told not to ask anymore. Staff are treated as expendable items that are easily replaced. I could go on and on; this facility has such a poor culture that it actually saddens me. My advice to applicants, you will be guaranteed a paycheck every two weeks; but expect to be treated poorly by upper management and don't expect a raise! Don't even ask......EVER!
