Pros

No pros could outweigh the cons of this bank.

Cons

My experience at this company was profoundly disappointing, to say the least. The blatant disregard for employees’ well-being is appalling and reflects a deeply ingrained toxic culture. It's worth noting that some of these positive reviews here were solicited by HR, who went as far as emailing select employees to post favorable reviews to artificially inflate their ratings. This fact alone should make you question the authenticity of those endorsements. The atmosphere within this organization is rich with manipulative, cliquey behavior, most of which is kept up by those in leadership roles. The HR department—ironically dubbed "People Officers"—only extends support if you're part of their inner circle. Genuine concerns raised by employees are routinely ignored or, worse, turned into workplace gossip, leaving many feeling isolated and distrustful. I have never experienced such favoritism in a corporate workplace as I did here. During my years with the bank, I witnessed a staggering lack of direction and consistency. Leadership would pivot values and priorities on a whim, leaving employees in a state of constant confusion. Open forums for employee feedback were a farce; questions were deflected or met with condescension, making it clear that honest communication was not welcome. Career development was practically non-existent, despite promises to the contrary, and there was a constant churn of employees— some quitting as soon as one week into their employment. Adding insult to injury, the phone number the company provides in their responses to poor reviews is nothing more than their general customer service line. It’s yet another example of how out of touch and disingenuous this company is in addressing legitimate concerns. While I had respect for my immediate team, the overall experience was marred by the toxic leadership and dysfunctional culture. I would strongly advise prospective employees to reconsider.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We take all reviews seriously as they provide valuable insight into our workplace and help us continue improving. While we’re sorry to hear that your experience at Core Bank didn’t align with our values, we would like to address some of the concerns raised. At Core Bank, our HR team works diligently to foster a supportive, inclusive, and transparent work environment for all employees. We are committed to providing resources for growth and development, such as our internal Core University and Leadership Development Academy and ensuring that every team member feels valued and heard. Regarding the claim that we asked employees to submit positive Glassdoor reviews, we want to clarify that while we have encouraged our team members to share their experiences on platforms like Glassdoor, we have never instructed anyone on what to say. Our intention has always been to invite honest, candid feedback, which we hope reflects the positive experiences many of our employees have at Core Bank. In terms of employee feedback, we take it very seriously and regularly listen to our employees through town halls, all-hands meetings, and leadership Q&A sessions. We have made changes based on this feedback to ensure we are continuously improving and meeting the needs of our employees. The claims regarding the HR team and work environment mentioned in this review do not reflect the feedback we receive from the majority of our employees or our ongoing efforts to promote a positive environment. However, we welcome the opportunity to better understand your specific concerns and I invite you to reach out to me directly at lwedel@corebank.com or 402-898-3341. I would be happy to discuss them further and explore how we can continue to improve. At Core Bank, we remain dedicated to fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented culture, where all employees feel supported and empowered. Thank you again for your time and feedback.

Pros

Get to work with down to earth people who you could be and probably will be friends with outside of work, no matter what their title is. For the most part, everyone at Core is always looking for ways to improve the everyday work life. The job is fun, the people are great, the culture is great. I can't see myself ever working anywhere else.

Cons

None that I can think of

Pros

Hosts food trucks, free swag. CEO is a great person and doesn't seem to see the toxicity that he has employed. He is a kind and respectful.

Cons

My experience at Core Bank was highly disappointing, and I cannot in good conscience recommend it as a workplace. The company culture is deeply flawed, with micromanagement being not just prevalent but actively encouraged. Over the past year, there were significant layoffs, including just weeks before Christmas in 2023, without any severance offered—displaying a complete lack of regard for the employees and their families. The environment is extremely cliquey, with HR participating in workplace gossip and demonstrating inappropriate favoritism due to close relationships with senior management. This creates an atmosphere where favoritism, double standards, and unethical conduct are widespread. There is a disturbing pattern of targeting employees who think independently, with the company going so far as to undermine their mental health if they do not conform to the so-called “value-based philosophy.” I also witnessed employees with learning disabilities being mistreated, and crucial regulations being ignored due to short staffing. Work-life balance is non-existent. Employees are often forced to work long hours without proper breaks, while management enjoys lengthy vacations. The limited options for remote work and the expectation to work under unsafe conditions, such as during severe weather, further exacerbate the negative environment. Overall, this is a toxic workplace that drives good employees away, and I fear for the future of the company if these practices continue. I would advise anyone considering a position here to think carefully and look elsewhere.

Thank you for your candid feedback. We are sorry your experience was not on par with what we strive to provide at Core Bank. Micromanagement and Company Culture: At Core Bank, we strive to foster a culture that empowers employees and encourages autonomy. We understand that different management styles resonate with different individuals, and we are continually working on training and development programs to ensure that our leaders are equipped to support their teams effectively. Micromanagement is not part of our core values, and we are committed to addressing any instances where this might be occurring. Staff Reductions: The decision to downsize is never taken lightly, and we deeply regret any hardship this may have caused. While we understand the timing was particularly difficult, we want to clarify that severance packages were provided to affected employees in accordance with our policies and legal requirements. We are committed to transparency and fairness. Workplace Culture and HR Practices: Our HR team is dedicated to maintaining a fair and inclusive environment, and we have protocols in place to address any misconduct. We encourage employees to report such issues through our confidential channels, and we take all reports seriously, investigating thoroughly to ensure a positive workplace for everyone. Work-Life Balance and Safety: We recognize the importance of work-life balance and safety. We do offer a hybrid work environment, but working from home is not appropriate for every position, including those that are 100% customer facing. We want to assure that we do not force employees to work in unsafe conditions. The safety and well-being of our employees are paramount, and we take all necessary precautions during severe weather or other hazardous situations. Support for All Employees: We are deeply committed to providing a supportive environment for all employees, including those with learning disabilities. The claim that such employees have been mistreated is not reflective of our values or practices. We take compliance with regulations seriously, and we investigate any concerns raised to ensure our practices align with our commitments. Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback.
