Pros

Terrible work conditions brought team closer together. I learnt how to work under extreme pressure and what red flags to look out for when applying for other jobs.

Cons

Poor top-level management primarily the issue. At first, there were a few good managers who stood up for us, but they all left for workplaces with better conditions. The corporate managers of the parent company are out of touch with little relevant experience for managing a law firm. They talked down to lawyers and forced us to work ridiculous hours. You will not be working 8.30am - 5.30pm as they frequently assign you urgent and complex work at the last minute. They are data-obsessed and track your activity. If you are not meeting the arbitrary quota of files/reviews per day, you are reprimanded. The quota did not take the complexity of matters into account. In a real law firm, preference is given to quality of work rather than quantity. Not here - CCA prefers to churn through the most amount of matters possible with no regard for the customer experience. Issues that are not your fault - such as clients becoming irritated with the poor customer service from the significant offshore workforce - will soon become your problem as clients yell at and harass you to vent their frustration with the system. If you ask for help with difficult matters, you are not given any guidance. There are few lawyers who have been there for more than a year and who can actually answer the complex legal questions which inevitably arise. I was told that "junior lawyers often have to just figure it out for themselves" which just comes across as negligent to me. The graduate lawyers this company employs should be given the support they need but are left feeling alone and anxious. So many issues were left unresolved with very upset clients. We brought these issues to the attention of our leaders. According to management, the data suggested that we were doing fine, so our legitimate complaints were dismissed. Lawyers were burnt out, exhausted, and borderline traumatised from how we were treated. I could go on, but in summary if you would like a healthy workplace where you are valued, I would not recommend this one.
